Caught Aboard the:

" Goin Off "

5/25/2006

Today Mason Williams, his son Brent, Mitch Varnes and I crossed to the other side on what early in the am was "Lake Atlantic". Conditions were perfect most of the day except that we couldn't find any legal sized yellowfin tuna. I'll bet we found at least 30 packs of birds most of which were working blackfin tuna. We ventured out to a distance of 73 nm and found that most of the bird packs were between 63 to 70 nm off. We caught and released 9 22"-25" yellowfins and pulled the hooks on what was likely our only keeper. Fortunate for us the blackfin were chewing and we were able to stock up on some small but "tasty" groceries. We caught the dolphin on a Todds lure while making a pass on a school of tuna. Anyway we caught a one of my fish boxes full of fish and gave one to the Canaveral locks lockmaster on duty in thanks for the great service, and, one less fish to clean!!! Total of 265 nm covered looking for the elusive yellowfin tuna burning at total of 136 gallons. Guess we'll have to try again real soon

Final tally for the day:
9 Yellowfin Tuna (Undersized and released)
15 Blackfin Tuna (Small but tasty)
1 Skipjack Tuna
1 25# Dolphin

Mitch's 25# Dolphin
