Big Redfish & Major Flounder Poundin
aboard the "Goin Off"

Today my crew was my son John and my fishin' buddies Mason Williams, Mike Ullian and Frank Martin. We picked up Frank after his sons t-ball game up at the Port Canaveral boat ramp. Started the day by loading up on the finger mullet and fished until 11 picking up 7 or eight flounder before we picked up Frank.

Tried a number of our favorite spots for flounder and found what we were looking for as the pictures below can attest. We were interrupted for about an hour by the Coast Guard when a nuclear sub departed Port Canaveral. The flounder bite was on and in the end it was our best trip for flounder to date this year with a total of 27 going on the ice.

The big catch of the day goes to Mason with a breeder redfish with an estimated weight of about 30 pounds that was boated and safely released after removing the hook. I'm sure she'll go on to reproduce a bunch more redfish in her lifetime.

We spoke to some folks in the ship channel while on the way to the ramp to drop off Frank and they went offshore and caught one kingfish. Since there were four of them, two couples, in the boat we decided it would be a nice gesture to give them some fish so we hooked them up with two nice flounders to add to their bag for dinner.

We also hooked up the lockmaster at the Port Canaveral locks with two flounder for dinner as well since we had more than enough for our needs. What a beautiful day and a great day fishing with good friends.

Final tally for the day:
27 Flounder
1 Redfish (over slot size & released)
1 Snook (under slot size & released)
1 Jack Crevalle (released)
