Half day of catchin' for Matt and Darren Meeker
and Darren's best bud Ross Johnson

Today my fishing buddies were Matt and Darren Meeker and Darren's best bud Ross Johnson vacationing from Illinois. The mission today was to get Darren and Ross into some action since this was their first trip offshore into blue water and dad wanted to make sure that it was a good experience for them.
We ran down the beach and got a live well full of pogies just below the steeple and since 8A has been so cooperative lately I decided that that it would probably get the job done for them. The action at 8A was as I had predicted and within the first five minutes we hooked our first fish which turned out to be a keeper Cobia, but, as luck would have it the hook pulled just out of reach of the gaff and the Cobia was gone from whence it came. We continued our slow trolling and finished our half day with a total of seven kings to about twenty pounds. We also had two kingfish eaten by Barracuda and the cudas got their pay back on the end of the line when we caught them and took their picture. Dad, Matt Meeker, also got about an eight pound Mahi-Mahi to add to our collection for dinner.
The weather was beautiful with calm winds and fairs seas for the boys first offshore experience and we were blessed with almost non-stop action form beginning to end. The real bonus was the cooler full of filets they had to take with them for dinner.

Final tally for the day:
7 Kingfish to 20#
1 Mahi-Mahi
2 Barracuda
A bunch of Atlantic Sharpnose Sharks released

Darren bowed up on a nice Kingfish

Darren with his first offshore fish a nice King Mackeral

Another nice King for Ross

Darren gets payback on this Barracuda for eating one of our Kings

Matt gets in on the action with a nice King as well!

Today's crew with some nice Kings and a bonus Mahi-Mahi.
