Today my fishing buddies were Capt. Dawn and her husband Earl Mergelsberg from South Florida who have been long time friends for more years than I am willing to admit. It has been ages since we've been able to get together and it was great to have them come up and share some time together as well as as some deep sea fishing Port Canaveral style. Fortunately the weather was cooperative and the fish as well and we were able to have a tasty dinner of those endangered species the Atlantic Red Snapper back at my home here in Cocoa Beach. Capt Dawn and Earl were the owner operators of the "Helen C" charter boat operating out of the Haulover Marina until health issues forced them to sell the boat and surprising enough the "Helen C" ended up here in Port Canaveral as the "Pocket Change".
    We started our day as usual getting pogies for bait along the beach and ran well up north towards Ponce to a spot that I haven't tapped in a little while with the intent to catch a limit of snapper and then do a little fishing for cobia and Kingfish. Well it just goes to show that letting spots rest can help your catch as we were able to catch a six snapper limit in under an hour as well a a short cobia which was landed and released quickly to grow up.
    We then moved on to catching a few Kingfish and finished the day by landing a total of 16 Kings plus a bunch of Atlantic Sharpnose Sharks.
    Had a smooth 35 knot cruise back to the port and a finished up the day with a bunch of new memories and a great time together reminiscing over the great times we've had in the past. I'm really looking forward to hooking up with Capt. Dawn and Earl again since it has been too long since we've gotten together.
