A full day and a bountiful catch of Cobia and Kingfish
the Wheeler clan and Joe Engel.

Today my fishing buddies were Wayne B Wheeler, Jr., Wayne B Wheeler, III, Brian Wheeler, his son Aiden and their really good friend Joseph Engel, Sr. for a full day offshore Port Canaveral. Found the pogies on the beach between the mouth of the port and the Cocoa Beach pier and one toss of the net resulted in about 50 pounds of prime baits.
Decided to change things up over the strategy over the past week or so and go back to one of my favorite slow-trolling spots at 8A. Turned out to be a really lucky decision because from the get-go it was game on with plenty of kingfish action and we were limited out by noon with a nice bunch of kings highlighted by Aiden's 25 pound kingfish, his first ever. We were also blessed in the midst of the action to have a school of at least five Cobia swim up to the boat with one we had hooked slow-trolling and pandemonium ensued. I had already pre-rigged three spinning rods with circle hooks so when they swam up and were hungry it took only seconds to get four fish hooked up. We were able to land all four fish amidst the chaos that ensued with great teamwork and a little luck. I absolutely love it when it's like this!!! After getting our limit of kings we decided to take a run up to a spot up north to finish our day and we were able in an hour or so to land another four Cobes with two being just short and two at about 37 inches.
The ocean was a calm as a lake and we cruised our way back to the port at 32 knots with a good load of fish and a lot of good memories. The bad news, two hours of fillet work for Capt. John

Final tally for the day:
13 Kingfish.
8 Cobia with four keepers to about 30 pounds
1 Barracuda released

Wayne with a Kingfish that's invited to dinner.

A 25 pound Kingfish for Aiden.

Joe with his first keeper Cobia.

Brian with a another keeper Cobia at 8A.
