Today my fishing buddies were Curtis Morris, Jason Choe and Cory Wright who were visiting the Space Coast specifically to see one of the last shuttle launches before the space shuttle is retired for good. Jason called to book the trip as another way to enjoy some of the much needed R & R form the daily grind back at work as network engineers.
    We netted a full live well of pogies south of the Cocoa Beach pier and headed out to 8A reef to pick up catch what Poseidon offered and have some fun. The weather in the morning was really good and I saw no reason to go anywhere other than 8A since it has been so productive lately.
    The bite turned out to be pretty steady for the entire day and everyone got a chance to catch a few quality fish today. Cory seemed to be the one destined for the honor of the most different species and at the end of the day he had caught Kingfish, Cobia, Mahi, Bonito and and Amberjack.
    We all had a great time catching and had a good deal of action most of the day. We started on our way home and I spotted the two shuttle booster retrieval boats on the radar and thought that since the guys had come all this way to see the launch they would get a kick out of getting an up close look at the boosters being towed back to Port Canaveral. I made a little detour and we were able to get a good look at the Liberty Star with its booster in tow. A great way to finish their vacation. We also bumped into a sinking shrimp boat the Charley Girl that is soon to be another hot spot for fish when she is sitting on the bottom offshore Port Canaveral

Final tally for day two:
9 Kingfish between 12 and 20 pounds
1 Mahi-Mahi released to grow up
2 Cobia released to grow up
1 Bonito released
1 Amberjack
