A Mahi day for the Deyo family and friends
Today my fishing buddies were Jay, Jim, and Jason Deyo with their friends Alex Reda and Jay's brother-in-law Joe Guy. The plan of the day was a trip offshore in search of Mahi-Mahi. It took a little longer to get offshore than usual due to the 3'-4' seas with a very short wave period. Unfortunately Joe wasn't able to get his sea legs and spent most of the day resting uncomfortably on the foredeck dreaming of dry land. He was a trooper though and took one for the team so we could get the job done and bag some dinner. W found a broken weed line in 216' of water northeast of the port and it was a pretty slow bite, however, the fish we were able to get were all gaffers with with all of them over 10 pounds except for one. We also caught and released an Barracuda. Jason had the most unusual catch when we had a loggerhead turtle surface in our spread and he got foul hooked in the flipper and after a 20 minute fight we were able to get him alongside. He was definitely not very happy but I was able to remove the hook from his flipper and sent him on his way more or less unharmed. Another fine day offshore with great people, decent weather, and a few fish for the table.
Final tally for the day: |
Alex with our first dinner guest and 15# Mahi, his first blue water fish.
|
Jim and Jason with tonight's dinner an 18 pounder.
