Cobia hunting Port Canaveral style with a fish dinner finish.

Today my fishing buddies were the Hai Nguyen, Luc Chao, Christine and Dean Phan and Joey Stubbers for a full day of fishing. The water temperature is in the zone for cobia but still no Mahi or Kingfish are available yet. It was overcast and rough in the morning and we even considered turning the boat around but we persevered and punched our way out to 8A reef and trolled spinning minnows (sardines) for an hour and a half without a knockdown. By then the winds had begun to subside and the overcast had burned off so it was back to buoy 2 to sight fish for Cobes for us.

We saw a number of undersized Cobia and about 10:30 AM I was able to hook into a decent fish but as Cobia do he was able to shake the hook and we were on the hunt again. I saw a number of undersized fish and was able to hook up  2 small ones that were quickly tagged and released. A short time later I found another nice fish and it was game on for Joey, Christine's boyfriend, who took the caching very well and after about a 20 minute battle dinner was assured.

The fish then did their disappearing act and we finished our day with a smile knowing some tasty treats were in store for later.

Final tally for the day:
1 Cobia about 40# and 2 tagged and released to fight another day
1 Spanish Mackeral
